First Responder
Are you a professional first responder or interested in becoming a first responder?
This 40-hour course teaches techniques for sustaining life, preventing further injuries, and caring for illnesses and injuries until the next level of medical personnel arrives. It includes CPR Level HCP and AED, as well as the following five parts.
- Preparing to Respond
(The responder, the emergency scene, and preventing disease transmission) - Establishing Priorities of Care
(Anatomy and physiology, assessment, respiratory emergencies, airway and ventilation, circulatory emergencies, bleeding, and shock) - Traumatic Injuries
(Soft tissue injuries; musculoskeletal injuries; head and spine injuries; and chest, abdominal, and pelvic injuries) - Medical Emergencies
(Sudden illnesses, poisoning, and heat- and cold-related emergencies) - Special Populations and Situations
(Special populations and crisis intervention, childbirth, reaching and moving people, multiple casualty incidents, transportation, and workplace)
Students must have a valid CPR Level C certificate to enrol. Successful students earn a three-year certification in First Responder, CPR Level HCP, and AED.
Emergency Medical Responder
Are you a paramedic, firefighter, law-enforcement officer, or other professional medical personnel?
This 80-120 hour course is for those providing professional health care in a pre-hospital setting. It provides the knowledge and skills necessary to sustain life, reduce pain, and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness.
This EMR course covers all the content in the First Responder course, with an additional and intensive focus on pharmacology. It includes:
- Preparing to Respond
- Establishing Priorities of Care
(with an intensive focus on pharmacology) - Traumatic Injuries
- Medical Emergencies
- Special Populations and Situations
Students must have a valid CPR Level C certificate to enrol. Successful students earn a three-year certification in Emergency Medical Responder, CPR Level HCP, and AED.
Oxygen Administrator
Are you required to use oxygen in the workplace?
This two to four-hour course teaches students how to operate various oxygen devices and how to respond to and treat respiratory emergencies. It includes:
- Breathing devices and suction
- Resuscitation masks
- Bag-valve-masks (BVM) for adult, child, and baby
- Supplemental oxygen
- Delivery devices
Students must have a valid CPR Level HCP certificate to enrol. Successful students earn a three-year certification in Oxygen Administration.
